What's on this map

This map shows all 50 states and the District of Columbia, each labeled with its name. Every region is a separate shape: tap to color it, or download the blank file as it is.

  • State names are sized to each state, so Texas and Montana get large lettering and Rhode Island, Delaware and Connecticut get small labels you can read at full size or zoomed in.
  • Switch the Labels tab to "Codes" for USPS abbreviations (CA, NY, TX). They fit inside every state, which suits small printouts.
  • Need capitals as well? The US map with capitals adds all 50 capital cities.

How to make your own US with state names map

  1. Paint. Pick a color under "Paint with" and tap regions. Tap again to clear. Rename each color to build the legend.
  2. Label. Turn on names or codes, or drop text labels and pins anywhere on the map.
  3. Color from data. Paste a list of names and numbers in the Data tab for an instant shaded map.
  4. Export. PNG for slides, SVG for editing, or print to paper or PDF. Your work autosaves in this browser.

How many states are labeled?

All 50, plus Washington, D.C. Alaska and Hawaii sit in insets at the lower left, as on most printed US maps.

Is there a blank version of this the United States map?

Yes. The blank map of the United States has the same outlines with no names, as a printable PDF and an SVG. Students fill in the blank one; this labeled one is the answer key.

Can I change or remove a label?

Switch "Region names" in the Labels tab between Names, Codes and Off. To rename or annotate a place, add your own text label and drag it where you want; exports include your labels.

Is it free to print and share?
