Data Collection & Storage

MapEditor.io is designed with privacy in mind. All your map projects, colors, labels, and customizations are stored locally in your browser using IndexedDB and localStorage. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your project data on our servers.

What Data Stays in Your Browser

• Map projects and designs you create
• Custom color palettes you save
• Recent project history (last 10 projects)
• Template favorites
• Editor preferences (zoom level, grid settings, default export format)

No User Accounts

MapEditor.io does not require user registration or authentication. You can start creating maps immediately without providing any personal information.

Analytics

We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to understand how visitors use our site (page views, navigation patterns). This analytics service does not collect personally identifiable information and respects user privacy. No tracking cookies are used.

Third-Party Services

MapEditor.io may use AI services (via Vercel AI Gateway) for optional features like color palette generation and legend text suggestions. When you explicitly use these AI features, your input text is sent to the AI provider for processing. This data is not stored by us or the AI provider.

Geographic Data

All geographic map data (TopoJSON files from Natural Earth and US Census Bureau) is bundled with our application and served directly from our servers. No external mapping APIs are used.

Export & Sharing

When you export maps (PNG, SVG, PDF, JPEG), the files are generated in your browser and downloaded directly to your device. We never see or store your exported maps.

Data Control

Since all data is stored in your browser:

• You can clear your project data anytime by clearing your browser's storage
• Your data is automatically deleted if you uninstall or clear your browser data
• We have no access to retrieve or restore your deleted projects
