What's on this map

This map shows 54 UN member states, with Western Sahara and Somaliland drawn separately. Every region is a separate shape: tap to color it, or download the blank file as it is.

  • Africa covers about 30 million km², roughly 20% of Earth's land. On a Mercator map it looks similar to Greenland; this equal-area projection shows the real proportions.
  • Island nations such as Cabo Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, Comoros, Mauritius and Seychelles are small. Use the search box to find and paint them.
  • South Sudan (2011) is the newest African country and is shown with its own border.

How to make your own Africa map

  1. Paint. Pick a color under "Paint with" and tap regions. Tap again to clear. Rename each color to build the legend.
  2. Label. Turn on names or codes, or drop text labels and pins anywhere on the map.
  3. Color from data. Paste a list of names and numbers in the Data tab for an instant shaded map.
  4. Export. PNG for slides, SVG for editing, or print to paper or PDF. Your work autosaves in this browser.
